My name is Nathan Grey and I am the Cultural Advisor at Ārahi NZ.

I am a te reo Māori tutor, faciliator and educator who brings a te ao Māori perspective to our workshops and programs. My reo journey began at Te Wānanga Takiura o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori before I completed Te Aupikitanga, a Level 6 qualification in te reo Māori.

Alongside my studies, I worked at Te Hā Oranga within the alcohol and other drug sector, where I used te reo Māori, waiata, tikanga and connection to identity to support whaiora (clients). During this time I developed and facilitated a program delivered entirely through te reo Māori and supported the co-facilitation of relapse-prevention kaupapa.

I currently tutor te reo Māori at Selwyn College and am completing a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Māori.

I am passionate about working with people and creating spaces where knowledge can be shared in ways that strengthen connection, confidence and identity. Music and waiata are central to my approach, providing powerful ways for people to express themselves , connect with one another and participate in collective learning. Through Ārahi NZ, I bring together te reo Māori, music, whakawhanaungatanga and culturally grounded facilitation to help make learning meaningful, practical and engaging.
